This summer I had the pleasure of photographing my dear friends Marina and Ben for their engagement!

I got to see their love develop from the early stages. It’s so beautiful how much they’ve grown together, the support and unconditional love, and now, the life they plan to build together. When they reached out to me to photograph their wedding and engagement I was so honoured to be the one to capture their love and create images they can cherish forever. Despite all the planning you do, you could never predict the weather. And although the day started out with rain it cleared up to the most beautiful of skies.

Marina is an incredible artist and painter and Ben is a musician. Whenever I see them together they are always so goofy and sweet with each other. Ben and Marina love going on hikes, camping, and adventuring. They spent the majority of the summer in Powell River on the Sunshine Coast working on boat together and enjoying the sun and the beach.

We wanted to really capture their adventurous and outdoorsy sprit in these photographs so we decided on the beautiful Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver! We picked out outfits together and decided on earthy, tones that would match the rocky, forest landscape of BC. We packed some snacks and headed out to Lighthouse Park for sunset. Driving there we got a little nervous as it was starting to rain, but just in time the skies began to clear up to a warm sun!

We had such a fun time dancing around, climbing up rocks, hopping over puddles and singing to some tunes. I couldn’t have dreamt of a more perfect moment to photograph their love. The sun began to set to the most beautiful pinks and reds as we watched it go over the horizon together.

I think that’s the perfect scenario; It’s not just about the photos, but creating an experience and memories they can look back on in photographs to remember how it FELT. I put together a little slideshow to share some of that day.

I hope it can inspire and remind you of the beautiful love and connection that life has to offer

Best wishes Marina and Ben!

“But I want to be with God all the time…I want to learn how to live in this world and enjoy its delights, but also devote myself to God…”

Ketut said he could answer my question with a picture.

He showed me a sketch he’d drawn once during meditation. It was an androgynous human figure, standing up, hands clasped in prayer. But this figure had four legs and no head. Where the head should have been, there was only a wild foliage of ferns and flower. There was a small smiling face drawn over the heart.

“To find the balance you want,” Ketut spoke,
“This is what you must become.

You must keep your feet grounded
so firmly on the earth that
it’s like you have four legs,
instead of two.

That way, you can stay in the world.
But you must stop looking
at the world through your head.
You must look though your heart instead.

That way, you will know God.”

Today I wanted to share a super fun photoshoot I had with Marlee! The cherry blossoms were just nearing the end of their blossom in Vancouver and we wanted to capture them before they were gone. It was a beautiful day with a golden sunset. The breeze was a little chilly, but the skies were clear and a perfect day for a photoshoot. We decided to go to Stanley Park for the shoot and the cherry blossoms were so wonderful to see! It seemed like a popular spot that day as so many people were out to admire and photograph the beautiful cherry blossoms.

Marlee brought a few different dresses and outfits that we planned and a jacket as it was getting a little colder. I love being able to guide my clients and help them feel more comfortable about how to pose, what to do with their hands, etc, and I saw as Marlee slowly started to warm up to the camera! I brought my film camera and my digital camera, but unfortunately my film camera stopped working during the shoot! I wish I could have share those shots, as the film capture so beautifully.

A bit about Marlee, she is a talented filmmaker, director, artist, and actor to name a few and it was so nice to be able to capture her for this shoot. She wanted to celebrate her graduation from film school and have a photograph of herself that she could feel proud of for her graduation slideshow. I first met Marlee in film school and we studied together for two years. It’s been amazing seeing her grow as an individual and an artist. It was a pleasure to see her again and catch up on life! So much can change in a few years and it’s so interesting how quickly we can change in life.

We shot a few different looks for this shoot, some in Stanley Park with the cherry blossoms, and some on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery and Skating Rink. I was surprised to see that there were so many dancers, both in groups and individuals practicing their routines. It looked like with all the closure of dance studios, they were able to find comfort and community in this place. The skate rink was filled with music, laughter, and fun.The sun was starting to set so we quickly changed to the next look which had a bit more for a business, personal branding feel with her white jumpsuit. I loved how these photos turned out and the lines brought such a fun visual interest to the shoot. There are so many amazing places to photograph in Vancouver, and some you can easily miss if you’re not looking. This was one of them for me. Sometimes you gotta think a little outside the box as a photographer.

As the sun began to set we got a little more playful with some dancy movement shots as well. During these, I really got to see Marlee’s personality come out and these were some of my favourite to capture. Definitely looking forward to when the cherry blossoms come around again as it was so much fun photographing this day! If you’re looking to celebrate a significant milestone in your life, a photo shoot can be a great way to do so! I hope you enjoy this little series of photos and if you’re interested in a shoot, feel free to reach out on my contact page above!
