Today I wanted to share a super fun photoshoot I had with Marlee! The cherry blossoms were just nearing the end of their blossom in Vancouver and we wanted to capture them before they were gone. It was a beautiful day with a golden sunset. The breeze was a little chilly, but the skies were clear and a perfect day for a photoshoot. We decided to go to Stanley Park for the shoot and the cherry blossoms were so wonderful to see! It seemed like a popular spot that day as so many people were out to admire and photograph the beautiful cherry blossoms.
Marlee brought a few different dresses and outfits that we planned and a jacket as it was getting a little colder. I love being able to guide my clients and help them feel more comfortable about how to pose, what to do with their hands, etc, and I saw as Marlee slowly started to warm up to the camera! I brought my film camera and my digital camera, but unfortunately my film camera stopped working during the shoot! I wish I could have share those shots, as the film capture so beautifully.
A bit about Marlee, she is a talented filmmaker, director, artist, and actor to name a few and it was so nice to be able to capture her for this shoot. She wanted to celebrate her graduation from film school and have a photograph of herself that she could feel proud of for her graduation slideshow. I first met Marlee in film school and we studied together for two years. It’s been amazing seeing her grow as an individual and an artist. It was a pleasure to see her again and catch up on life! So much can change in a few years and it’s so interesting how quickly we can change in life.
We shot a few different looks for this shoot, some in Stanley Park with the cherry blossoms, and some on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery and Skating Rink. I was surprised to see that there were so many dancers, both in groups and individuals practicing their routines. It looked like with all the closure of dance studios, they were able to find comfort and community in this place. The skate rink was filled with music, laughter, and fun.The sun was starting to set so we quickly changed to the next look which had a bit more for a business, personal branding feel with her white jumpsuit. I loved how these photos turned out and the lines brought such a fun visual interest to the shoot. There are so many amazing places to photograph in Vancouver, and some you can easily miss if you’re not looking. This was one of them for me. Sometimes you gotta think a little outside the box as a photographer.
As the sun began to set we got a little more playful with some dancy movement shots as well. During these, I really got to see Marlee’s personality come out and these were some of my favourite to capture. Definitely looking forward to when the cherry blossoms come around again as it was so much fun photographing this day! If you’re looking to celebrate a significant milestone in your life, a photo shoot can be a great way to do so!
